Sky Overseas Updates: Rundown no. 4

CHICAGO – Six Chicago Sky players are currently taking their talents overseas with their respective teams this off-season. Below are the listed players, their teams and countries.

Dana Evans – Besiktas JK Istanbul (Turkey)

Azurá Stevens – Galatasaray MP Istanbul (Turkey)

Rebekah Gardner – Spar CityLift Girona (Spain)

Julie Allemand – LDLC Lyon ASVEL Féminin (France), Belgium National Team

Ruthy Hebard – Atomerőmű KSC Szekszárd (Hungary)

Emma Meesseman – Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü Istanbul (Turkey, Belgium National Team

Emma Meesseman made her overseas 2022-23 debut with Fenerbahçe in Istanbul, Turkey. In her first game, Meesseman recorded 11 points and notched three rebounds in 20 minutes against Kayseri in Turkish League play. She has played three total games thus far with Fenerbahçe, increasing her stat line across the board every game. Most recently, she tallied 20 points with a team-high 12 rebounds in 38 minutes of play against Nesibe. Fenerbahçe is 4-2 in Turkish League and 2-2 in EuroLeague play. After a short holiday break, Meesseman and Fenerbahçe face off against USK Praha in the EuroLeague.

Meesseman will also be playing for the Belgium national team this week for the two European Championship qualifiers. Belgium will play against North Macedonia on November 24 and against Bosnia-Herzegovina on November 27.

Rebekah Gardner and Spar CityLift Girona recorded a 3-1 record over the past two weeks, winning its last three games against Spar Gran Canaria and Move Students in the Spanish League and a statement win against Sopron in EuroLeague play, 63-60. Against Spar Gran Canaria, Gardner tallied a team-high 20 points and four assists in 33 minutes and tallied another team-high 10 rebounds against Move Students. Spar Girona’s continues Spanish League play against Kutxabank Araski (December 1) and Jairis (December 3), looking to improve to a 9-2 record.

Ruthy Hebard has been averaging 11.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 30.1 minutes over the last three games with Atomerőmű KSC Szekszárd. Szekszárd recorded an overall 2-1 record over those games, most recently defeating Olympiacos, 78-69, lifting them to an even 2-2 record in EuroLeague play. In that game, Hebard notched 15 points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes. On November 12, Szekszárd narrowly defeated Sopron, 70-68 in Hungarian League play. They now hold an 8-2 league record. In that game, Hebard recorded 12 points and six rebounds. Hebard and Szekszárd are back in action on December 3 against PEAC-Pecs in the Hungarian League and against Bourges in the EuroLeague on December 7.

After dropping their first five games, Dana Evans and Besiktas have won their last two games in Turkish League play against Hatay, 84-81, and Rize, 76-59. In both games, Evans recorded a team-high in points and minutes. Against Hatay, she tallied a season-high 37 points in 45 minutes, and against Rize, recorded a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes. On the season, Evans is averaging 19.0 points in 38.9 minutes over seven games. Besiktas will continue Turkish League play against OGM Ormanspor on November 30.

Azurá Stevens and Galatasaray were undefeated in Turkish League play at 6-0 before falling to Mersin, who is led by Chicago Sky Assistant Coach Emre Vatansever, 54-68. Galatasaray is now 6-1 in Turkish League and 2-2 in EuroCup play, most recently defeating Slavia BB, 81-70 on November 16. Stevens and Galatasaray resumes play on December 1 against Meesseman and Fenerbahçe in the Turkish League.

Julie Allemand is playing with LDLC Lyon Asvel Feminin. Lyon is currently undefeated at 4-0 in the French League and 2-1 in EuroCup play. They continue French League play against Tarbes on December 4 and against BLMA in EuroCup on December 8. Allemand is currently tending to an injury and is still with the team. She will not participate in the two European Championship qualifiers this week.

*Courtney Vandersloot will not be traveling overseas (Euroleasing Sopron Basket – Hungary) for the foreseeable future. There are no further updates from the Chicago Sky at this time.
